During the Festival van de Toekomst in Rotterdam, Wethouder Saskia Bruines today presented the new white paper \u201cSmart Technology in Public Spaces\u201d to Gedeputeerde Meindert Stolk. This publication marks five years of innovation within Living Lab Scheveningen, a testing ground for smart city solutions that has since gained international recognition. The white paper provides an overview of the lessons learned and the successes achieved since the start of the project.<\/strong><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Unique test environment<\/strong><\/p>\n

Over the past five years, Living Lab Scheveningen has evolved into a unique test environment for technological innovation in public spaces. In and around the boulevard, new digital applications are being tested and developed with the aim of improving the area\u2019s mobility, safety, and sustainability.<\/p>\n

Digital infrastructure under municipal management<\/strong><\/p>

Thanks to the digital infrastructure established since 2020, consisting of an extensive fiber-optic network and technology-equipped street furniture such as kiosks and lampposts, new applications like crowd monitoring and sustainable energy management have been developed and put into use.<\/p>

Social value<\/strong><\/p>

The technologies tested in the Living Lab offer practical solutions to real-world challenges. Whether it\u2019s improving safety on busy summer days or promoting sustainable energy use, Living Lab Scheveningen demonstrates that technology can have a positive impact on the livability of the area.<\/p>

Regulatory and social testbed<\/strong><\/p>

In Scheveningen, technology is tested directly in public spaces, not in a closed-off area or regulatory sandbox. This makes innovation more complex, but also more valuable. As a result, it serves as both a testbed for technology and a regulatory and social testbed, balancing innovation with laws, regulations, and the interests of residents and entrepreneurs.\u00a0<\/p>
