Working towards a Smart City

To innovate, experiments and new collaborations are necessary. Together with market parties, startups, knowledge institutions, fellow governments, residents, entrepreneurs, and social organizations, the municipality is trying out smart solutions in several parts of the city.

Under the name SHIELD, the Police and the municipality of The Hague collaborate on technological innovations in the security domain. By combining the strengths of both organizations, they can innovate more effectively, and successful innovations can be scaled up more efficiently and rapidly. 

ICSS

The municipality of The Hague collaborates with partners, such as the Impact Coalition Safety & Security (ICSS), on safe and innovative smart city solutions in the Netherlands. This platform develops digital cities where safety and innovation converge, using technology that promotes the well-being of everyone.

In the Startup in Residence Intergov program, governments challenge startups to pitch innovative solutions for social challenges. The startups with the best solutions are selected for the program. Over a period of 5 months, entrepreneurs participate in a valuable innovation program to prepare their solutions for implementation in collaboration with the government. The goal is to co-create and achieve faster impact!

DMI

Het Dutch Metropolitan Innovations (DMI)-ecosysteem is een samenwerkingsverband dat zich richt op slimme en duurzame verstedelijking. Gemeente Den Haag speelt een actieve rol in dit ecosysteem door deel te nemen aan diverse projecten en initiatieven binnen het Living Lab, waar innovatieve oplossingen worden getest en ontwikkeld om de leefbaarheid van de stad te verbeteren.

The Municipality of The Hague is participating in Smart Gardens (Pientere Tuinen). Smart Gardens directly contribute positively and concretely to a green and healthy living environment. It is a national participation project. The goal is to collect data at 5,000 measurement points in private gardens of existing and new homes nationwide and, based on this, provide tailored advice to garden owners with tips and information.

In public spaces, the municipality of The Hague deploys sensors, with a focus on and a commitment to transparency regarding the collected data. In this way, the municipality has contributed to the development of the development of the national guideline for government sensors and, together with the Responsible Sensing Lab, is investigating how smart technologies can responsibly contribute to a transparent digital city.

The Hague is the city of care and innovation. Since 2016, the municipality of The Hague has been investing in making healthcare future-proof. Together with residents, healthcare providers, entrepreneurs, and educational institutions, we ensure the right healthcare technology that helps residents of The Hague live independently at home for longer and more comfortably.

This is a test area for smart innovations at sea. Off the coast of The Hague, just outside the port of Scheveningen, the municipality of The HagueKPNthe University of DelftTNOSailing Innovation CentreSvašek Hydraulics and the Watersport Association are collaborating on an advanced test area of 10 x 10 nautical miles.
