Proefpark Binckhorst is a place where the Municipality of The Hague tests new ideas for public spaces. The park features facilities such as outdoor fitness equipment, playgrounds, sports courts and a graffiti wall. These facilities help the municipality understand which amenities are most appealing and useful to residents and visitors.
The experiences and insights gained in the Proefpark Binckhorst contribute to the development of the future Waterfront Park and other public spaces in the Binckhorst area.
To create public spaces that meet people's needs, it is important to understand how they use the park. The Proefpark Binckhorst already serves as a testing ground for research into nature and biodiversity, including the presence of different bird species.
With this pilot, the municipality is exploring how visitors use the park. Bluetooth technology is used to anonymously count the number of devices present in different areas of the park. No personal data is collected, and neither people nor devices can be identified or tracked.
Through anonymous measurements, the municipality gains insight into which areas attract the most visitors and which facilities are used most frequently, such as the outdoor fitness equipment, basketball court, playground and graffiti wall.
These insights help the municipality make informed decisions about the design of the future Waterfront Park and other public spaces in the Binckhorst area.
In collaboration with X-Alert, the municipality is exploring how visitor numbers and facility use can be measured without collecting personal data.
By relying solely on anonymous counts, visitors' privacy remains protected. The results complement the existing research activities in Proefpark Binckhorst and help the municipality make well-informed decisions about the design and development of public spaces.
